Cross Stitching

The art of cross-stitching is an Early American Craft, but also has its roots in Europe. Stitching was done in the farm cottages to the castles of England.

The materials for cross stitch have been part of the Ladybug since the first day the shop opened. Everyone that works at Ladybug is a stitcher and we are always willing to share ideas and answer questions. Stitching is a hands on craft. It takes time to match the threads with the fabric.

Ladybug carries charts of just about all description. Some are harder to find than others, but we always try to do our best. There are about 1,000 different charts in the shop. And new ones arrive weekly.

Fabric is cut for the customer at time of purchase. Stitch count runs from 7 count evenweave to 40 count linen. We also carry hand-dyed and afghan fabrics. Fabrics are zigzagged for the customer free of charge to prevent the edges from raveling.

Threads in stock include DMC floss and perle cotton, overdyes by Gentle Art, Weeks Dye Works, Crescent Colors, and Caron Collection. Metallics from three suppliers, and silks and “fun” threads.

Ladybug also carries Mill Hill beads and crystals, ceramic and clay buttons, and all kinds of gold & silver charms. Embellishments are great additions to any stitching work.

When Ladybug started framing in 1990 it was due to the number of requests from stitching customers. We now frame just about anything, but we remember that our framing roots is needlework. Barb has been framing over 15 years and she is the best. Ladybug only uses acid free materials to preserve all art works. The framing department can cut oval and round mats, hand-line mats, and hand decorate mats and frames also.

We also do repair work, glass and mat replacement, and re-stretching of fabric.
